I am Sajida
Peace to You.
I have been proofreading and editing informally for the past ten years of my life, but this (2023) is the first year of my proofreading/proof-editing journey as a freelancer. Believe it or not, I’ve always enjoyed finding errors in text and correcting them; kind of like the feeling you get when you find Wally or when you Spot the Difference. Though the work of polishing a document can be gruelling at times, when I am trusted with the work of others and the ‘trustee’ is satisfied, it makes the hours of scrutiny worth it. This is my aim as a proofreader/proof-editor; to return what you have entrusted to me in top form.
In Islam, the concept of Ihsan relates to achieving excellence in one’s devotion to God. It is this same concept which inspires me to aim for excellence in everything I do. The saying, ‘what’s worth doing is worth doing well’, comes from a longer quote which reads, ‘In truth, whatever is worth doing at all, is worth doing well; and nothing can be done well without attention.’ I keep this in mind when I work.
My strengths are in the humanities. More specifically, I have a BA in Abrahamic Religions (an in-depth study of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam), an MA in Creative Writing, and I have completed the Essential Proofreading Course with the Publishing Training Centre (PTC). I am a member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading and the Society of Book and Magazine Editors.
My portfolio page shows you what I have worked on in the past, and my services page outlines what services I offer, shows you my core client base at present, and gives you a little note on pricing. If the service you’d like is not listed but you’d be interested in working with me, then feel free to drop me a message and I will get back to you.
Proofreading/Editing is just one of the building blocks of my life; others are my family (I have a husband and two daughters, and of the 11 children my parents nurtured, I am number 8!), my faith (Islam has shaped and defined the person that I am), and my interests (I love reading, writing, basketball, thinking, anime, tinkering with musical instruments, and a good cuppa).
I look forward to hearing from you 🙂
